2) Provide some more puppets for visitors to play with e.g. Serving scholars and the general public alike, the Nancy Staub Puppetry Research Library houses over 1,100 books, 1,900 videos, 1,300 periodicals, and 1,000 posters and includes a substantial number of Center-related videos, ephemera, photos, articles, and. How could the Center improve an already great experience? 1) Provide some more seating around the monitors that are running looped films/demonstrations/short documentaries. The Center’s Museum program also maintains the largest puppetry library in the country. One of the first things we did after leaving the museum was to buy DVDs of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal! We spent several hours at the Center and easily could have spent a lot more time there. There is even a section where children and adults alike can try using puppets, in one of the ways that Jim Henson and his team did, whilst watching themselves on a monitor. The Jim Henson Collection is absolutely superb, stuffed full of exhibits (Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Hoggle, The Four Guards) and documenting every part of his life’s work and some of that which the Company has continued to produce since his death. The museum covers from back then right through to the latest versions of this art form, which includes animatronics and models used in films, which are repositioned for every frame. We had no idea of the number of different forms this art takes, nor did we fully realise just how far back in history its practice stretches. The exhibits of puppetry from all around the world are amazing. We decided to take the self-guided tour, which enabled us to wander around at our leisure. So the answers to my earlier questions: Extremely interesting and no, it certainly isn’t just something for the kids, although they will love it. After all, how interesting can a Puppet Museum be and isn’t it really something just for the kids? However, on a recent visit to Atlanta, with a few hours to kill and with a 2 for 1 discount coupon from a leaflet in the hotel, I decided to tick off one of the few attractions left on my Atlanta ‘to visit’ list. ![]() ![]() However, I had always avoided the Center for Puppetry Arts. Includes one Toasted Cheddar Chalupa with grilled, all-white-meat chicken, one Crunchy Taco, chips and nacho cheese sauce, and a medium fountain drink. During that time I think I have seen virtually all of the attractions in the area. Over the past 5 years, Atlanta has become something of a second home to me.
